Event Details

Anyone involved in the local voluntary and community sector in Sheffield is invited to drop-in to a free Social Media Advice Surgery taking place after the Volunteering Strategy Launch on 14th January 2010.

If you'd like to find out how free resources such as Twitter, Blogs, Facebook and other Social Media tools can help you with your work, from marketing to fundraising to simply sharing information and keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your field, then come along!

Whether you know nothing about social media or are already using some of the tools, you will be able to chat to the friendly (and knowledgeable) NAVCA staff and GIST Bashmash volunteers over a cup of tea / coffee and get their advice and practical tips. They will help you look at different free websites and services, and discuss with you how it could all fit in with the work you do.

This informal drop-in session is open to anyone who thinks it might be useful - (it would help us if you could register your details here), or drop by any time between 5-7pm. It will be taking place directly after the Volunteering Strategy Launch event at Voluntary Action Sheffield, (The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield, S1 4FW), so if you are coming along to that why not stick around for the Social Media Surgery too?

What happens at a surgery?

You’ll get a chance to sit down and have a cup of tea with someone who understands web sites and tell them about your group or organisation and what you do.

You might have specific questions that you’d like to ask, or you might just like a general introduction to what’s available.

You can look at the different kinds of free web sites and services (such as Twitter - or Eventbrite which has been used to create this page!) that you might find helpful, and see what similar groups are doing. If you want, you can set up a free web site or service there and then.

You don’t need any previous knowledge to take part, and there won’t be any lectures. We’ll talk to you one-to-one, listen to what you need and explain things clearly.
